The theme of EdTechXEurope 2018 is ‘Eternally Learning’. What does eternal learning mean to you?

Eternally Learning means letting go of the notion of "individual expertise" - things change too fast for anyone to attain all of the skills needed to operate by themselves. To really succeed, we need to tap into a global sharing community of like-minded innovators and educators, and generously share what we have tried and learnt. We also need to ensure we keep a growth mindset and always run towards meaningful challenges.

What should the rest of the world learn about EdTech in your country?

South Africans are incredible innovators, able to do a lot with very little. EdTech provides a powerful opportunity to level the playing field, especially in basic education, to ensure every child gets the education they deserve. It also allows our elite schools to impact a global audience with unique, emerging markets content.

Why is it important for all players in the EdTech ecosystem to continuously connect, network and learn from each other?

Nobody has the time to make all the mistakes for themselves, and there is just too much going on to process it all on your own - we need to share our stories, so that others can learn from them and adapt them to their circumstances.

How does your current role allow you to make a difference to education and learning space?

I am able to embed innovation in academic planning, quality assurance and teaching & learning. I work with faculty and institutional structures to ensure we are delivering the best education we can, tailored to the needs of today's post-experience student.
