How does your current role allow you to make a difference to the education and learning space?
I have two hats. As Future Learning Manager at the Technical University of Denmark, I am working towards making online facilitation of professional networks much more interesting by developing a radically different platform. We're also creating an innovative collection of digital business tools that focus on the moment of applying knowledge. With my second hat on I'm a board member of EdTech Denmark, where my particular focus is on facilitating network discovery and matchmaking in a digitally enhanced way. This will make the Danish EdTech ecosystem much easier to comprehend and navigate for everyone involved.
What are the key trends you believe have the power to transform the way we learn?
Social learning, engagement/motivational techniques, and workflow integration / performance support.
Why is it important for all players in the EdTech ecosystem to continuously connect, network and learn from each other?
In 2019, there still aren't that many EdTech geeks yet, so it's important to meet up and soak up energy and inspiration from each other. That fuels our future development. It's also important to learn what others have done, so that we try new and different approaches in order to increase innovation.
What should the rest of the world learn about EdTech innovation in your country?
In Denmark, we're known for our flat/democratic classrooms, collaborative learning styles, focus on sustainability, international orientation, simplistic design, project-based learning, and our strong belief in developing "whole" human beings through the liberal arts etc. The last point we call "dannelse", for which there is no English translation, but "bildung" in German roughly means the same.
When you think about joining London EdTech Week and EdTechXEurope Summit this year, what are you looking forward to?
The energy from having so many EdTech interested people gathered in one place. Finding others dedicated to similar EdTech causes. And, of course, brilliant speakers.
Who would you like to meet at the event?
People that are crazy. People who don't just believe that change can happen, but are working with dedication and passion in new directions. People who understand the immense untapped potential in EdTech.
